Harbourside Details

Background

Harbourside is a former net and sails loft thought to date back to the early 1700's, used by the local fishing community, and probably used in the smuggling trade. It is now a Grade II listed cottage on Polperro quayside.

The only remaining records of the building go back about eighty years to 1934, when the building was used as a dwelling originally known as The Cabin. From that time, the cottage has passed through a number of ownerships, until I purchased it in May 2015. The cottage had been renamed 'Harbourside' in 1955.

The photos on the left show a 'before' and 'after' of the cottage sitting on the quay in front of the famous Blue Peter public house.

The Cottage

Harbourside enjoys unparalleled views of the Inner Harbour, and is also a perfect base from which to explore the village, the South West Coast walking trail, access to the nearby beach, and local boat trips out to sea, or along the coast to the nearby towns of Fowey and Looe.

The cottage is accessed from the quay, and leads into the small dining area. Further along the hall is the kitchen, the second bedroom containing an adult sized bunk bed for two, and the bathroom/toilet. Under the stairs you will find an ironing board and iron. The kitchen has an electric oven and halogen hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, washing machine, and kitchen utensils.

Upstairs there are two rooms; the Living Room, with open fire, flat screen TV and DVD player, and a window seat overlooking the harbour. From here there is a door leading out onto the balcony, which has a table and chairs and a great view of the harbour. Next door is the main bedroom containing a double bed, and another window seat with the same beautiful views. Superfast fibre internet access is provided.

Unfortunately and regrettably, due to the age and construction of the building, it is not suitable for wheelchair access.

Parking

Parking is at an absolute premium in the village. The roads around the harbour are far too narrow to allow access by vehicles - which is part of the charm - and the roads which are accessible have very little in the way of parking spaces. However the Cottage does come with its own dedicated space for one vehicle, located about 5 minute's walk away at Violet Farm up Landaviddy Lane, and free to use by cottage guests. However I should warn you that this is up a fairly steep hill, so is not best suited to the elderly or unfit!

For the purposes of unloading luggage, it is perfectly acceptable to drive down Lansallos Street to the slipway at the edge of the harbour for five to ten minutes at the beginning and end of your stay. There is also a luggage taxi available at reasonable rates - contact details available on request!
